The RDR-HXD870 DVD recorder is a newish addition to the Sony stable, having appeared late last year.
It's an affordable model that also has some nice features including an in-built standard definition (SD) tuner and a 160GB hard drive.
Sony claims that hard drive will store up to 455 hours of content, although keep in mind that the figure will be significantly less if you have a large television screen.
There's also support for a range of DVD formats including playback for DVD-RAM discs. The RDR-HXD870 will also upscale your DVDs to 1080p.
Another nice inclusion is Sony's own HQ+ Recording mode, which the company claims gives your recordings sharper, clearer image quality.
