The Sony PlayStation Portable - also known as the PSP - made waves when it first arrived on the gaming scene several years ago.
And rightfully so - the PSP is a very fine handheld gaming console.
If you're a hardcore gamer, the PSP will probably not be enough for you. For the full gaming effect, you do need a full-size console, such as the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. But the PSP is a fantastic supplement to your gaming arsenal and allows you to take your games on the road with you.
But it's not just a games console. The PSP also doubles as a portable video player, courtesy of the 4.3-inch widescreen LCD, and you can also play music and view photos. As portable video players go, it's not the best, but when you consider that the movie capability is a bonus on top of the fine gaming functionality it's more than enough to impress.
And make no mistake that the PSP does excel as a handheld gaming console. It features the same controls as the full-size PlayStation consoles so you will have no trouble adapting if you're already familiar with the layout. In terms of games, you'll also find that many are adapted versions of existing PlayStation titles. The screen is exceptional and you'll find yourself drawn into the gameplay. Audio is also solid - we recommend investing in a quality set of headphones to make the most of your gaming experience (and so you don't annoy other people when you're playing in public!).
The PSP isn't inexpensive, but if you're serious about your gaming we have no doubt that you'll be willing to fork out the dollars to get the best handheld gaming experience your money can buy.
