The Logitech AudioStation iPod speaker system does not come cheap. With a recommended retail price hovering near the $500 mark, there's no doubt that there are cheaper systems for your iPod on the market.
However, like everything in life, with speaker systems you get what you pay for. If you're only willing to pay less than $100 for a system, the sound is likely to be less than faithful to the original and you'll have fewer features. As the price goes up, the sound tends to be richer and the features more plentiful.
Like most Logitech audio products, the AudioStation is an outstanding performer. The bass is exceptional - iPod speakers usually struggle with the lower ranges - and the higher ranges hold up well, too. The bass and treble are fully adjustable.
The AudioStation also rates well in the looks department. It comes in piano black and features touch-sensitive control buttons. Despite being a powerful unit, it's also relatively compact, weighing in at under 4kg.
Last but not least, the features are also good. The AudioStation charges your iPod while it's docked - this is something that's fairly standard with iPod speaker docks these days - however there's also an AM/FM radio with 24 preset stations and a clock.
