The BlackBerry brand of mobile phones has long produced some of the smartest and most functional smartphones on the market, however they haven't been particularly consumer-orientated.
All that changed with the introduction of the BlackBerry Pearl, also known as the BlackBerry 8100.
The Pearl is a very consumer-friendly mobile phone. It boasts a glossy black case and the candy-bar shape of many of today's popular Motorola and Nokia mobile phones, rather than the square form of its predecessors. Gone is the QWERTY keypad: in its place you'll notice an integrated keyboard with two letters on each number or symbol key. This makes it easier to use the email function, which BlackBerry has always been renowned for. Of course, there's also the organiser functionality. The BlackBerry Pearl features synchronisation with Outlook.
Overall, it's in the business functions already mentioned where the BlackBerry Pearl excels. When it comes to the consumer functions - such as the 1.3-megapixel digital camera and media player - the Pearl doesn't quite match the performance of the better multimedia phones on the market.
That being said, the Pearl is still primarily a business phone. However if you're a business user who wants some basic multimedia functionality thrown in as a bonus, the BlackBerry Pearl should fulfil your requirements.
